OH MOLD SHE DIDN`T!!

Mold at your business can be a nightmare and with the current downtime it would be a good time to walk through and check for mold or mildew. Check areas that are prone to water and moisture such as bathrooms, kitchens and basement areas. If you do not see any mold but smell mildew, take a deeper look in cabinetry around sinks in the bathroom and kitchen and check behind and under shelving in the basement. Here are some tips to deal with mold:

  • Keep insurance for floods up to date and keep it in an area that is accessible.
  • If you have had moisture issues in any of those areas, now would be a great time to install proper ventilation. Install fans or vents where needed to alleviate the excess moisture.
  • Install a dehumidifier in basement areas, this will help keep moisture at acceptable levels.
  • If you do have a water leak, a small one that is not due to flooding, remove any items from the area that have been affected by the leak.
  • If you do find mold, avoid bleach. There is still water in bleach and while it will smell great and remove surface mold, there will still be residual moisture left behind and the root of the mold will not be treated. Call a professional who has been trained in proper mold cleaning techniques.
