The Lawyers Objected to Their Rain Soaked Office

6/1/2022 (Permalink)

Early on a Tuesday morning, a frantic Law Office Manager called SERVPRO of White Plains from her cell phone.  She had arrived to work early to catch up on some paper work she had left in a neat pile on her desk.   She walked into the office to find that neat pile was now a soggy mess floating in 4 inches of water throughout the office.  Being the efficient Office Manager that she was, she grabbed sneakers out of her car and ran back in the office.   She made her way down the water-soaked hallway peering into offices as she went by.  There were water-soaked ceiling tiles everywhere.  On the desks, on the floor, wet papers, blank computers, a blank multi-line phone system,  and water everywhere.

We arrived on site soon after and started the emergency service mitigation. Our estimator was taking photos, measuring and sketching each room. We were in contact with the insurance adjuster and were given instructions on what we could tear out and pack up. We packed up wet papers, files, and books. We emptied law office size filing drawers contents into boxes to be brought to our storage. We contacted specialized vendors for the antique furniture, the curtains, and an electronic specialist to try and dry out and get all 6 lawyers and the Office Manager up and running.

We started in the conference room so that we could centralize a working space for them. We moved through the other rooms and began to tear out carpets, remove walls, ceilings, and a lot of debris. A wooden mallard made its way down the flooded hallway scaring some of our crew at first. The law office had a good laugh!

The crew strategically placed equipment for drying and getting the moisture out.

The lawyers were working in the conference room several hours later.

We monitored the moisture levels and when the drying equipment could be removed we treated the surfaces with anti-microbial and explained the process as we went along.

The law firm invited us to do the reconstruction and put in a request with their insurance company. We put walls and ceilings back, stayed out of the way of the Office Manager and her very skilled decorator, and in a short time the office looked "Like it never even happened."

The law firm was extremely happy with our work, and suggested we contact some other commercial offices they are associated with in case they ever need our services again.
