Water is essential for life. We are constantly using it, whether it be to drink, wash dishes, and cook our food. Due to this, our kitchens are one of the biggest culprits when it comes to potential water damages in our homes. The problem is there are so many different appliances, nooks and crannies, and when both of those are combined, it’s a perfect opportunity for a leak to go unnoticed. Keep reading to learn about some common culprits of hidden leaks in the kitchen... this way you can be aware and potentially save yourself from a costly situation.

Dishwashers are one of the common appliances that can cause pesky leaks that when they go unnoticed, can become a huge issue. One way this can happen is when a leak occurs through the door. Sometimes this happens naturally but usually it occurs due to factors such as using too much soap, overloading the dishwasher or loading it in a way that disrupts the free spraying. Along with that, a dishwasher can also have a hidden leak underneath. These leaks are usually caused by gasket failures, cracks in hoses or faulty connections. Keep this in mind every time you go to use your dishwasher.

Refrigerators are another common kitchen appliance that can cause unsightly leaks in the kitchen. One thing you have to look out for is any broken pipes as they can develop cracks or have gasket failure. Along with that, make sure you’re careful while moving your refrigerator during a cleaning session or for any other reason. Water lines are notorious for breaking when moving the appliance back and forth. Freezers are also another pesky culprit, as ice can melt and leak if your freezer is not functioning properly. Make sure to keep an eye out next time you go to grab some ice cream.

With all of that being said, make sure to give your kitchen some extra TLC. Make sure all appliances, whether big or small, are functioning properly, and clean up any messes and spills as soon as they happen. If you do happen to find yourself in the middle of a wet kitchen, don’t hesitate to call SERVPRO of White Plains and New Rochelle. We can be reached at 914-684-1560.
